In case no one realised, the "flamingo" post was post number 555 for this blog. Whee!

None of my previous blogs ever hit 555! So that makes this one the longest one ever (and I suspect the longest lasting one too).

Something strange and funny happened earlier on.

You see, my desktop was the first first-hand computer I ever laid hands on. All my previous ones were at best, 3rd hand hand-me-downs from the brother and the dad. That means dad buys the computer, uses it till he gets sick of it and gets another one, then the old computer gets passed to the brother, who uses it till it crashes half a dozen times before dad's 2nd computer gets to him or till he gets sick of it and uses his own money to get his own, and then brother's computer finally reaches yours truly. 3rd hand.

This goes on for about eight years I reckon and eventually drew the pity and sympathy of my mum, who then decides to get me a first-hand computer of my own after I completed the GCE O Levels. Yes, if you do the math, that means I've been hogging computers since I was 8, not strange once you factor in the fact that I've been using computers since I was in kindergarten! This is natural, when your dad is in the IT line, ok?

Anyway, my current desktop, which has been with me since I was 16, which makes it 4 this year, is starting to give out on me. I have DOZENS of dead pixels on my monitor (the first LCD monitor in the house), my keyboard gave out on me earlier this year, the mouse is about as sensitive as a block of wood and the speakers go wonky (not a priority for me). A keyboard has nicely been loaned from the boyfriend, so that leaves the monitor and the mouse (like I said, I don't care that much about the speakers since out of 2, one still works pretty darn well). Mouse takes precedence over monitor because the dead pixels have yet to cover half of the screen lol. And.... that means if you were to get me something computer-related, it should be a mouse!

Yesterday, the modem at home gave way too and my dad went to buy a replacement. My mum mentioned my mouse to him and he came home today with a new...............................KEYBOARD.

WOW.

I appreciate the intention, but well.. what can I say? At least I'm not dependent on the boyfriend's old keyboard? Or at least I can use a keyboard for the laptop? What about my mouse? I still can't use the desktop till I get a new mouse. I'm a bag of paradoxes, one of them being me being BOTH a spendthrift and a cheapskate.

I can hold out for weeks and months for a new mouse (I'm not looking at high ends one, just one that works with the desktop!) and then I will spend 5 seconds deciding whether I should buy... for example, a new pair of shoes and go home with a shoe box. See? Spendthrift and cheapskate, all in one. Of course that means my priorities are not in the right places after all, I mean I couldn't possibly die from not getting the shoe but my desktop would be a nightmare to use without a mouse, but if given a choice, I would have still walked home with the shoes.

Sometimes, it's horrible being a female and actually behaving like one. For once, couldn't I just get the mouse and go home to a happy desktop? Nooooo... I had to get the shoe. So much for practicality (fortunately, this doesn't happen too often). Another reason why the shoe keeps winning? The laptop. If I didn't have one, I swear to you, I would be breathing down the neck of anyone close to me who walks into Challenger to get me a mouse. Lol. With the laptop, the desktop simply isn't as appealing as it used to me. Plus my desktop's graphics card sucks and I can't play the SIMS 2 on it. Seriously, have you see the screenshots for the new expansion pack Seasons? TO DIE FOR. Of course, I'm too poor and my desktop is lousy, so no SIMS 2 for me. *pouts*

I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
