It never fails to annoy me how dumb my GP tutor can get. Wanna know what this is about?
Today's GP lesson was another one on Science vs religion. Not surprisingly, and not surprising that he kept going after me for points. It was obvious that I was very, very irritated that Teresa even said "Go on, defend yourself, spew vulgarities," which triggered off semi-voracious laughters from Isaac and Charles.
Anyhow, today he kept going on the point of Argument by Design which states that
a. a perfect creator had to exist to create humans with the perfect anatomy
b. a perfect creator had to exist in order for the perfect Earth to be created such that it is hospitable
My rebuttals were based on the existence of other forms of humans (I don't get how some people can doubt that they were human. They look like us, except bigger OR smaller in size, they still walk on 2 legs, use tools and think). Wow, perfect creator means perfect humans eh? THen how come we've got fossils of our hobbit-cousins and those of the Neanderthals (go google this if you dare, 'cause we all know for a fact that they exist, we've got their bones). So the "creator" couldn't be perfect, Mother Nature isn't perfect, but she does have her way of correcting stuff. So since he likes to assume "gods" are perfect, so be it. His only rebuttal for his own point would be on the point of vestigial structures (which he gave the WRONG name). It was weakly developed and did Science injustice. Plus, imo at least, if the human anatomy is perfect, we would never fall ill, our organs would never fail us and the only thing we'll die of would be old age or accidents. We all know that this isn't so. People die all the time, be it from diseases, cancer, organ failure etc. If so, how is the human anatomy even close to perfection?
About the planets, haha it would just be due to some strange stroke of luck that everything fitted. And for all we know, there are other planets out there capable of supporting life, it's just that we haven't found them. Uniqueness you say? I say, show me the proof (this is getting to be some motto of mine lol).
Then he deviated onto good versus evil and asked if good and evil are mutually exclusive or can they co-exist. Well, in the bible, it indirectly shows that their "God" created*wittingly or not* "Satan". Even though he tried to play around with the words a little, if you traced everything back, it'd still go back to one source, the so-called almighty "God". When he tried his little word game with me, I decided enough was enough, I wasn't going to argue with this fanatic. There isn't any point because at the end of the day, he's just trying to convince me that he's right and I'm wrong. Well excuse me, but I'm not that easily convinced, like I said, SHOW ME THE PROOF.
Onto something a lil more trivial, I got back last week's Bio RDE and I PASSED. Lol, 29/42. Not bad I reckon, but I probably could have done better (a few silly mistakes here and there lol). Gotta go now, homework calls (rightfully so)
I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
