Top 25 Favourite Foods
Another list taken from Windfall Woman's blog =)

1. Ayam Buah Keluak (a local Peranakan dish made from Chicken, tumeric, blue ginger, candle nuts, rawan nuts etc)
2. Babi Ponteng (some sort of braised/stewed pork dish, it's a Peranakan dish, hence the name is in Malay although Muslims are forbidden to consume pork)
3. Pizza (esp Hawaiian pizzas)
4. Pasta in general
5. Dumpling Noodles (Shui Jiao Mian in Mandarin, the dumplings are made from minced pork, chestnuts, prawns and some vegetables covered by a thin skin made from dough)
6. Baked Potatoes
7. Mac and Cheese
8. Itek Tim (commonly know as Salted Vegetable and Duck soup, made from salted vegetables, duck, tomatoes, pork ribs and a touch of Brandy)
9. Chap Chye soup (Chap Chye... it's kind of like fermented beancurd skin.... except it's in soup that also contains fermented soy beans, pork, lots of cabbage )
10. Apple Strudel esp the one from Corica (name of bakery) in Perth
11. Apple Pie (the McDonald's version)
12. Tiramisu
13. Macademia flavoured ice cream (not Macademia Brittle)
14. Muffins
15. Secret Recipes's Oreo Cheesecake
16. Roti Prata (it's a local Indian dish made from dough that has been flatten out to form a disc and then fried, occasionally contains fillings such as cheese, eggs, onions, even ice cream. Usually eaten with dhal or other forms of curry)
17. Taiwanese Pineapple Pastries
18. Singaporean Muah Chee (it's this white looking, sticky lump of solid made from glutinous rice that is cut into small bits and then tossed into a bowl containing powdered peanuts and mixed so the glutinous rices bits are coated with the peanuts and then eaten)
19. Nyonya Kueh (it means Peranakan cakes or little snacks. It comes in various forms, ranging from the very colourful, to the very rich , in coconut milk that is)
20. Gelato (it's something I learnt to eat in the past 2 years, I love the exotic flavours)
21. Fried fish with sambal. My mum's recipe. Normal fish that is friend, topped with a mouth numbing chilli made from numerous chilli padi (one of the spiciest chillis around)
22. Local delight. CHILLI CRAB. Not really for the crab, but for the delicious, mouth watering chilli gravy that we consume with fried mantous (Chinese buns)
23. Brazillian Churrascaria. Something like a Brazillian BBQ, except it's all meat, and it's like a buffet, with the food coming to you. As many as 15 different cuts and types of meat served. Comes with a delightful appetiser (cheese buns) and with caramelised pineapples to help wash the food down.
24. Mee Pok. Unassuming, commonly found dish throughout Singapore, available in all self-respecting hawker centres though the quality differs from place to place. Made from flatten rice noodles, minced pork, mushrooms and fishballs. Comes in the soup and dry variety.
25. Rojak. It's like a salad, Singaporean style. Cheap (costs SGD$2-3 in most cases). Made from You Tiao (fried Chinese dough that has been rolled into 2 long stripes and have been stuck together), cucumbers, pineapples, the occasional green apples (not very welcomed, my mum usually requests for them to exclude the green apples), kangkong, bean sprouts as well as an absolutely delicious gravy made from peanuts, a special sort of flower and what I think to be lots of sugar

I know I'm out of space, but I just had to mention one more.

My unofficial number 26. LAKSA. Nyonya dish made from lots of coconut milk, some rather special sort of noodles, and what I shall take to be rempah (the mix you get before the actual gravy). Again found in all self respecting hawker centres. Quality again differs. However there is a famous Katong Laksa (we now have 3 Katong Laksas fighting to the the authentic one, only people who've lived in that area Katong would know which one is the original, but give all a try anyway. Different people would prefer different versions of the Katong Laksa.

Location: Singapore, Singapore, Singapore

I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
