Of Mud-slinging and Kindergarten (ok, it's not a relevant title. But who cares?)
The final round interview was ok I reckon. It wasn't half as bad as the first round, ironically. Lol. BUT how many 18 year olds on Earth can claim to have been in the same room as a world renowned researcher and the chairman of A*STAR?

That was my experience. It wasn't mind-blowing. It pretty much just left me in awe. The interview went well, I was asked a lot of tough questions, but my nerves held up. I thought I was able to answer some of the questions pretty decently. Keeping a sense of realism, I know my chances aren't fantastic, especially with no SAT results and no offer from their list of selected universities, but what I can say is that I've tried my best, and I leave with absolutely no regrets.

We'll see in a few weeks; the outcome of A*STAR's selection. I must say though, the fellow applicants I was placed with were outrageously nice people. Lol. They were fantastic. It was nice to see people competiting for scholarships engaging in nice, friendly conversation (we were noisy people). Other than their personalities, they were amazing, in respect of their talents. I've met people who've done projects on fuel cells, who've read so much you'd wonder if that person has already gone to university and people who've worked at research labs on attachment. I pale in comparison. What have I got? An irrelevant job internship. A strange experience volunteering at a local hospital. Results that pale in comparison. I don't think anyone saw each other as competitors for the scholarship.

On to better and perhaps stranger news, I got this in the mail last night:

Dear XXX XX XXX Phoebe,

CONGRATULATIONS! You have been selected for the

Commendation Award for First Aid Unit and the College Advisory Committee Award for Academic Excellence!

With it was an invitation to my junior college's College Day. The first award is shocking, because no one in the school actually cares about the First Aid Unit. We're just there when people get hurt, need panadol, need bandaids (I'm not kidding! I've had dozens of people come up to me asking for bandaids). But what the heck, I'll take it anyway. It better be good though =P

Election fever hits Singapore. Interesting stuff to see everywhere, even in my area which has seen walkovers the last 2 times. I'm enjoying myself, haha, maybe because I don't have to vote, and that I've NEVER seen politicians get so.... active. I think this is cool, if only every election were like this. Sometimes, I wonder, why is it that local politicians attack each other's arguments like kindergarten kids? I have no idea, maybe it's just politics. For that, I'm glad to NOT be one of them ;)

People around me have gotten ALL their offer letters from the 3 local universities. Except students applying for Medicine (me), Dentistry and Law. Suddenly, all medicine, law and dentistry applicants start feeling insecure. Lol.

I'm getting quite excited about tomorrow. I'm going on a picnic! =D. I'm bringing the dogs along, since there was NOTHING on the park's website on dogs being disallowed. Plus, I'll be leashing one and carrying the other. Things to bring:

1) F&B
2) Newspapers
3) plastic bags
4) Plain water for the dogs
5) Food for the dogs in case they get hungry (they're ALWAYS hungry -.-)

Mainly. I drew a list up, a more detailed one, to tell me what to prepare =). What fun. I haven't done this in ages, in fact, I don't think I've ever done this considering I can't remember the last time (or the first) that I've had a picnic. I hope YOU remember to bring a camera. It's the first time my dogs are going to a park =)

I'm just waiting for YOU to tell me what time we're setting off tomorrow (and then I'll start preparing the food). The anticipation *grins*.

I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
