One book down, 6 to go!
Yes, once again, the title says it all (i have a tendency to let the title speak for itself, eh?). Out of the 7 books i bought yesterday at the Times Book Fair, i finished one, not too bad, but it's the 2nd thinnest book out of the lot (280 pages, approximately). My thinnest being the book on Darwinism, at some 60-70 pages. =P

Anyhow, the book i finished is "Ellen Rimbauer's Diary: My Life at Rose Red" Those of you Stephen King fans, who watched the TV series Rose Red(watched it last year on tv, since it happened to be on) would know what the book is about. It traces the life of Ellen Rimbauer(disappears in Rose Red), from a young and pretty much innocent 19 year old, who marries a guy twice her age, John Rimbauer(he dies in the end), to how John ruins Ellen's life, the accidents and disappearances in Rose Red, the Rimbauer's mansion as well as the grandest private home in Seattle. About Sukeena(she disappears), Ellen's handmaid from Africa who possesses extraordinary powers, about Ellen's children, Adam and April (she disappears) and about Rose Red's insatiable desire for power, to grow, to consume. I guess after reading it, you'd have to rejoice when John does die, because he is one hell of a sick bastard, you kind of pity Ellen, who miscarries once, gives birth twice (the 2nd time left her barren), and has to put up with John's multiple extramarital flings. Somehow, Rose Red seems to always avenge Ellen's sufferings, almost as if it sides with her, but in the end Ellen loses to Rose Red of course. You'd be pretty much freaked out and amaze (at least I was) at Sukeena's interpretation of Rose Red, it makes good (not perfect i would say, but good nonetheless) sense. For a moment, i was almost duped into believing the entire Rose Red thing was real, until i recalled "stephen king?" and then thought to myself "nay!!!". Lol, i should say if you watched the mini series before the book, you could get duped into believing it's true. FYI, i just googled it to check, and yes, it is false, so you can relax, we do not have a possessed house in the middle of Seattle capable of morphing and changing on its own (that's pure freaky). Instead, it seems the mansion is loosely based on the Winchester mansion (read about it a long time ago), now i'm starting to see the similarities.

Overall, i should say the book isn't too bad, pretty enticing if you're into this sort of books. At least it kept me reading for hours. Lol, rare feat for books nowadays. But of course, there was some rather inappropriate content in there for people used to more erm mainstream writing, but it's masked rather subtlely, at least it didnt come right out at you with its meaning, at least not crudely i should think. Well, i'm off for now, cya later then

Location: Singapore, Singapore, Singapore

I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
