AI
No, no.. NOT AMERICAN IDOL, but Artificial Intelligence.

Caught it on tv last night, as part of a steven spielberg fest. I liked the show, it has a very nice story.

It's about a mecha built to love humans called David. David's brought home by a Cybertronics employee, Henry, to his wife, for them to well test out. Henry's chosen as he had "lost" his son to some incurable disease (martin was actually frozen). So David starts off bumpy with Monica (the wife) and Henry, but they soon accept him. Until one day, Martin's disease is cured and his parents bring him home. Right from the start, it is obvious that Martin dislikes David and tries to get David into all sorts of trouble. The last straw being Martin's party where his friends use a knife to try to test if David has DAS (damage avoidance system). The incident freaks David out and he hugs Martin, beseeching him to protect David. Soon they both fall into the pool and Martin almost drowns. Henry forces Monica to abandon David afterwards, Monica softens her stand as they are approaching Cybertronics where David will be destroyed when her heart softens and she lets David out into the woods, abandoning him, telling him to never go near Orgas (real people). So David, armed with an illusion that Monica would love him if he became real, sets off to find the blue fairy (from the story pinnochio) and in the process, gets caught and sent to the Flesh Parade where mechas are tortured and destroyed. Where his appearance and obvious emotions endear him to the anti-mecha crowd, making them think he's human where he manages to escape with Giggolo Joe (very colourful character). The 2 of them make their way to Rouge City to find the blue fairy, where they are misled into travelling to Manhatten. There, David is reunited with his makers and disappointed that he can never become human, jumps off the building and into the sea (manhatten is partially submerged in the show). Joe saves him but is caught by the police for a murder he did not commit but before getting caught, he does David one last favour, allowing David to travel underwater to search for the Blue fairy. Down there, he finds a statue of her, and prays to her to make him real. Soon, the ferris wheel (i think) of the submerged theme park gives way and he's trapped underwater. 2000 years past and the humans have become extinct. Aliens (i presume) are exploring Earth when they find David, who reawakens. Towards the end, Monica is cloned and David spends one happy day with her, as after 24 hours Monica's clone will die.

Not the best summary, but thats what i can remember. Sweet story, but a lil saddening nonetheless.

I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
