It sucked, basically. I may be failing every subject, i reckon. Chem, Bio and to a certain extent, Econs were nightmares. Couldnt finish ALL of my papers save it for GP. Oh well, brace for the fact that I may be seeing teachers and the principal soon. Something I gotta face eventually i reckon.
Today, I celebrated my freedom. How? First, i got my hair cut. Really chopped off some 2-3 inches of hair, so now it's just slight below the shoulders. It used to be somewhat mid-back level. I havent had hair this short in about 4 years, and it feels... light.. Heh, decided to let the hair grow back in length again, it will take time, but heh, i guess it'll be fun. I also watched War of the Worlds. As they say in Malay. BAGUS!!! Haha, it was BRILLIANT.
Trust Steven Spielberg to do such a movie. I was blown away, trust me, ask the guy who watched it with me. WOW. You could imagine just being in their shoes, it's almost like being transported into their world. You can feel their horror, fear and struggle for survival. What i REALLY liked was the scene where you see the plane wreckage (did you know they used a REAL boeing 747 for that?), and the one where the Martians were in the basement, scanning for signs of human existence (i held my breath for most of the scene, petrified that they were gonna be discovered). The earlier scene where the highway was blown to smithereens was pretty cool, and the scene where our main characters were captured by the aliens. The scene where you see the mass of red blood weeds was pretty horrifying, but I dont understand how that's formed.
What I didnt like about the show was the girl, Rachel. She screams and cries too much. But hey, she's a young girl, so i'll forgive her for that, plus she brings out that fear factor pretty well. I disliked the son, Robbie, I don't get how someone can throw away his life, and risk his sister's in such recklessness, esp in a situation where your entire species is facing extermination from a force that no one seems to know how to deal with. I dont see how he needed to be with the armed forces. The ending was a lil disappointing but i guess the reason did make sense eventually, but i would have liked the ending to be a lil more exciting and explosive.
Guess the dad Ray made a pretty nice transition from horrible dad to protective and self-sacrificial dad (esp how he protected Rach from being taken up into the tripod for erm, blood-sucking reasons). I hardly think any guy (or girl) on earth would do that if ever put in such a situation, it'd be every man/woman for himself/herself.
Back to Ray. Guess the movie portrays very well what desperate parents would do for their children. Murdering people, even dying for them (tho he obviously didnt want to, hence the grenade haha).
On the whole, I'd give the movie an A+. GREAT. Definitely the best movie i've seen in a while, beats Star Wars HANDS DOWN. Any movie that can invoke such a sense of panic deserves to be watched. A must watch, even for those not interested in the plot, the effects are wonderful.
I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
