Having Lightly-coloured Hair (Natural Ones Included) : Fine $5000
Today we had another one of our infamous spotchecks after morning assembly, and I've never been sooooo annoyed during morning assembly before, since I started attending school in 1993, although I've been the one conducting the spot checks in sec sch (but hey, it wasn't THAT bad right? Since we were quite corrupted haha).
This male bio tutor, Mr Ng, started walking from class to class, and pulling every student whom he though dyed his/her hair out to see the DM. So we saw, class after class.. 2-3 students coming out from every class.. and then.. he walks to MY CLASS. Drats.. now normally I don't get a problem regarding my hair, because light it may be, it still looked somewhat black, mainly because I shower in the morning, leaving me with a head of semi-wet hair during morning assembly, which understandably, looks a little darker than it would. So this guy, surfaces my classmate ..walks down the row..stops at me and scrutinises MY HAIR. A few seconds pass, and the dissatisfied fella (I am refraining from calling him a MORON, so I am being very, very polite now lol), then tells me to turn my head in all directions so he can have a look at my hair. My heart rate increases tenfold... and I comply... to my relief, after a couple of excruciating seconds, he decides to let it pass, and then latches onto my classmate (whose hair is NATURALLY brown) and catches her AGAIN.
Since when has it been a crime to be born with light hair? Ok, mine wasn't THAT natural, but it was part genes and part external factors (my mum was born with light hair too. Her childhood nickname? Chinese angmoh. And you wonder where I get my hair from). External factors? I did swim for 2-4 years competitively, often w/o using a swimming cap because I disliked it. Of course the chlorine in the pool would have done something to my hair. And FYI, I like my hair colour sufficiently to not want to colour it ANYTIME SOON. If TKGS didn't have a problem with my hair colour, I don't see why TJC should.
And the OM is suddenly using the security guards are "prefects", ordering them to intersect latecomers. Security guards are there to ensure our security, not catch latecomers, that's the bloody problem of the DM and the OM (which I seriously don't care about). Because the security guard was later than the OM, the OM decided to kick up a ruckus with the guard, resulting in the security guard quitting. I seriously think the security guards are a more popular fixture in TJC than the OM ever will be. I don't dispute the fact that the students were wrong for coming late, but the OM was f*cking wrong for making the guards do HIS WORK. Talk abt accountability? Then the OM should resign, not the security guard (and every single TJCian would celebrate). This OM is the same person who threatened to make students pay for the school's utilities bills because the school attendants decided to switch on the air cons to make life better for the students w/o even being asked. Perhaps the one who really needs to grow up is the OM.
I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
