Freedom has never smelt so good (well almost)
THE GCE A Levels are almost over!!! Woohoo!!! Today was the biology paper 3 and now all I have left are my S Papers and the biology paper 1! I'm actually elated enough to spent 2h++ playing the SIMS2 =)

Anyway, I noticed that I confused a few people who didn't get get all the colloquialism, so here's a brief key to help you along (my apologies)

A Levels --> GCE 'A' Levels --> General Certificate of Education Advanced Level
Econs --> economics
Bio --> biology
chem --> chemistry
Ah Pek --> lecherous old man
On top of that, different subjects contain different numbers of papers, the way we are tested is split into a few segments, with an average of 3 papers per subject, 4 if you take the 'S' (Special) papers (which would stand for paper 0)

Anyway, the class is celebrating THEIR momentous day of freedom come Thursday (not mine, you see? Obviously the 3 'S' paper candidates in class do not constitute part of the class, rubbing it in our faces that we end 1-4 days after them). E asked me to go, which I probably should be going, not by virtue of me liking my class (haven't exactly done that since 1999, but I haven't hated my class not till last year, still do , by the way). If I go, it'll be because it's being held at the airport (and I adore the airport) and that we're eating at Swensens and I wanna go back for the fries, fish baked rice and maybe the apple crumble (exact same stuff we ate at Bugis =p)

Onto something way, way, waaaaaay more important. Yesterday, the door bell rang and I answered the door, only to be greeted by this gentleman dressed in orange/red , who reminded me of a Pizza hut delivery man. Of course my first thought was "huh? Pizza hut lost a delivery man?" It turns out that the "lost Pizza boy" was a courier and I was to receive a package from..THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER!! My heart stopped beating, my adrenalin levels surged (don't fail me for biology even though adrenalin increases your heart rate). For that moment as I was ripping apart the packaging, I was on the verge of hyperventilating. Ripped open the packaging, and saw a large envelope. Ripped that apart and I saw this letter:

Dear Phoebe

Degree Programme: BSc (Hons) Genetics with Professional or Industrial Experience
UCAS Number: xxxxxxxxx

Thank you for applying to study BSc (Hons) Genetics with Professional or Industrial Experience at the Faculty of Life Science. We are pleased to inform you that we will be making you an offer to study that course; you should be receiving this from UCAS shortly.

As you are an overseas student we have decided not to call you for an interview. However, if you would like to come and visit the Faculty you are more than welcome. Please contact the admissions office, who will be more than happy to fit you in on a full interview day session. Alternatively if you would like to fit in a visit around a pre-planned trip to the UK, then we should be able to organise at least a tour of the facilities for you.

We have included information on our new Singapore Scholarships as well as the interview day brochure, which will give you an idea of what you would be doing if you came for an interview.

We are very proud of the excellent ratings achieved for both teaching and research activities in the Faculty of Life Science at this University. In addition our graduates are much sought after, reflecting the high regard in which employers' rate students graduating with a degree from the University of Manchester.

Please note that all international students are guaranteed a place in University accomodation (as long as both acceptance of the place on the course and the accomodation application form has been received by the 31st August 2006)

We hope to meet you in the near future.

They will be offering me a place!!!!!! My first choice university has decided to offer me a place!! WOOHOO!!! My first choice course at my first choice university!! Of course till now I have no idea what kind of offer they will be making me and I am keeping my fingers, arms, legs, toes and even eyes crossed (no, don't imagine that) that it will be an unconditional offer. And I eagerly await the letter from UCAS to drop from the sky and onto my lap =) Of course I still haven't received a reply from Liverpool so I'm wondering what happened to it. Dear ole Yinxue's theory would be that the university is still narrowing down the unconditional offers and mine might still be stuck inside. Well unless you're a staff member there who has a hand in determining my fate, I don't think anyone will know. Maybe it'll come with the UCAS letter with the reply from Manchester. How cool is that? An offer from Manchester. Please oh please, let it be unconditional *prays*

Anyway,I an going to stop now before I really go cross-eyed. TTYL =)

    Congratulations! That is the best way to begin your future -- at the institution you want most. (and to be independent of the family ...)

    Thank you! Haha, of course my situation is kinda complicated, considering I can never go unless a scholarship drops out of the sky as well (lol). But I'm keeping all my fingers crossed =) Can't wait to experience life abroad

Location: Singapore, Singapore, Singapore

I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
