I'm falling ill and it seems to be becoming a trend among my orientation group. Another groupmate's on the verge of falling ill, just like me!
Anyway, today was ok. Went out, had pasta at Breeks at Ngee Ann City. I have to relate this incident here because it was just too amusing and new, given our service standards in Singapore.
Don't get me wrong, I think our service standards, especially in middle-class eateries and above, are pretty fine. Even in our fast food outlets. The staff there greets you, says thank you and have a nice day. Some of them even smile at you. But Breeks took it to a whole new level!
When the 3 girls (Chek Hui, Arsyikin and yours truly) first waltzed into Breeks, there was a coordinated "HELLO! WELCOME TO BREEKS!" from ALL of the staff on duty there. We were seated and given time to decide on our orders after which a waitress (very attentive, I would say, she came almost immediately after we put the menus down and kept relatively quiet)promptly came and took our orders, repeated them and excused herself.
Within 5 minutes, I spotted Chek's SALAD coming out of the kitchen and exclaimed a little too loudly that her salad's almost ready, only to see that the embarrassed chef had hid her salad behind the counter. All our main courses came within 10minutes. A first for most eateries with a reputation like Breeks (a little like Billy Bombers I could say, but I love the milk shakes at Billy Bombers). I remember waiting 45mins for my pasta the last time I was at Swensens!
To cut the story short, as we are, our 'nanny' arrived, ordered a drink for HIMSELF and was promptly served as well. After footing the bill, on our way out of Breeks, we heard another coordinated greeting. This time, it went "THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND HAVE A NICE DAY!". COORDINATED! Every one of them said it, with clock-like precision!
I have to say I was VERY impressed! Polite service staff, quick and prompt service. What else could I ask for? Except they threw in the whole coordinated greeting part. So to tbe staff and management of Breeks at Ngee Ann City, GREAT WORK! *Thumbs up*
Now tomorrow, I will be waltzing into the Orchard Road area (again). This time, I get to see how good the service is at Coffee Bean. Will it be as good? We were at Secret Recipe (Plaza Singapura outlet) and the service was pretty up to standard, except for a mix up in our orders. But man, Breeks really took it over the top, which was good. Lol.
Tonight's World Cup Semi Final match: Italy vs Germany. Go Italy!!!!! (But knowing the jinx that I am, Germany might win, just because I'm supporting Italy).
I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
