Of University Applications and Scholarships
I have something to confess. I had a hair cut, AND a hair treatment. Courtesy of YOU. Ok, ok, I know I should have paid. I wanted to. Really. I'll give you a treat with my next pay check (next week), ok?

So my hair is now less tangled (I noticed!!!), shorter and a lot (I mean it) more layered. It's a nice change, but it needs some getting used to.

Bad news: My managers want me to go back to work over the weekends. I think I was supposed to work today, but we weren't notified. And then they asked if we were available next weekend, but we (Elaine and I) said no as ALL local universities (full unis) were having their open house. SO it looks like I'm work-bound during weekends from the 18th of March.

It's a little daunting that it's ALREADY March.Which means I've been working for close to 2 months (next week marks the 2nd month). 3 more months in the workforce before my contract expires.

University applications open this coming Monday. I'm still a little undecided. My mum keeps trying to psych me into Medicine (shows how desperate she is for a doctor in the family) by constantly telling me that $2000++ (normal starting pay) is peanuts and won't go far. I have my eye on genetics (life sciences) and microbiology (medicine), although I leaning more towards the side of genetics. But with such results, I feel a little more driven to make that push towards medicine despite questioning whether I'm the right person for medicine because I'd much rather be a geneticist. Of course, my mother's constantly plugging for medicine doesn't help.

It's ironic that my parents have next to no reaction to my results. It's almost as if it was expected of me. Prodigal daughter who's always done well academically MUST get 4As, anything short of that is a disgrace. I can almost see it in their faces. In my family, praise and encouragement is overrated.

And then we move onto scholarships. Should I apply, or shouldn't I? Yes, although I have the 4As and an A1 in GP, giving me a perfect raw score for university application, I have one Ungraded and only a Merit for my special papers, whereas most scholars coming from the institution I'm looking at gets the same results, except with 2 DISTINCTIONS. The chance of me landing a scholarship is now one in one thousand.

Correction, as Shawn said (6 distinctions boy!!!), we can get a scholarship if we really wanted to, but the question is getting the scholarship we want. Now my chance of having that happen to me is 1 in 1000.

Anyway, I had a nice day. Caught Munich. Nice but slightly gory show. I love history flicks. Other than the haircut, I had dinner with his family at Cafe Cartel. We had a seafood platter for 3 (forgot the dish name) and the ribs. Nice ribs, sweeter than Kenny Rogers, but Kenny Rogers probably wins, only because of the Mac and Cheese. CL (YOUr sister, notice I'm introducing abbreviations and codenames all over the place?) found a strand of hair in the fried batter of the soft shell crab, which managed to get 4 of us a free dessert. Dessert was nice, mainly 'cause I saw vanilla ice cream, kiwi, peach and strawberries inside, which I love. Haha. I didn't choose the dessert, I swear!

Meeting the squad on Sunday. I wonder how many people will be there. Hmmm.... And I hope they'll be punctual for once!

Location: Singapore, Singapore, Singapore

I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
