Piss the temp off? I'll do your work last. That was my attitude today, especially towards the most influential manager on board. He happened to annoy me by choosing NOT to tell me what to do and expecting me to read his mind and execute the required task. All through my non-existent psychic abilities. He dumped me with Person X's file and draft letter together with Person Y's draft letter with funny symbols scribbled all over it. Under normal circumstances, that means that I have to amend the letters and pass it back to him. And so I did just that. The next thing I knew, he was telling me that I had gotten it all wrong and that I was supposed to take a section of Person Y's letter and incorporate that into Person X's letter. Already I don't like the chuckling, insane freak and now he expects me to mind-read????
Anyway, that left me feeling extremely annoyed, crossed and indignant. And how could I possibly get back to him? Simple. By leaving his work to the very last. Before starting on his work, I found the time (or made time) to send 3 letters out (2 of which were problematic cases) and amend one calculation. By the time I got to his work, it was past 3 in the afternoon. So yes, if you want your work done ASAP, DO NOT PISS THE TEMP OFF. Not this temp!
The department had an appraisal today. I knew that the managers were appraising the accountants, but I didn't know that the temps were included. Anyway, there has been some reshuffling. My manager is leaving tomorrow, I cannot stand the new manager and just as I was about to resign to my newfound fate, the directors deals us a blow that sends us reeling into shock.
Instead of being attached to a specific manager, whose portfolio is being handled by a myriad of accountants, we are now attached to a specific accountant who handles cases for a handful of manager. I don't know which one is better.
In the old system, my manager's main accountants wouldn't give me work till everything was settled and all I had to do was to send the letter out. Now I'm under one of her main accountants and he's giving me work to do for other managers. I'm not sure how different their styles will be from my old manager's, but the new one (he handles a LOT of her cases) promises to be a nightmare.
Of course, the new allocation of manpower hasn't gone down well with the accountants. Immediately after the appraisal, they gathered around and started complaining about the new system. 20 minutes later, they muster enough courage to confront the managers about it but I don't think it will do much good. Since when do superiors in a corporate environment in Asia EVER listen to their subordinates? Asian bosses are 'programmed' to think that they know best, even when they don't. Of course I wouldn't know about Caucasian ones, so if you do, kindly enlighten me.
Anyway, onto happier things. I've bought the tickets to the company's screening of a soon-to-be-released movie and I am glad to say that I managed to land centre seats (while the other 4 of them who got someone else to buy for them, ended up with side seats *lady luck wasn't on their side*). Apparently, Lady Luck isn't exactly hunky dory with me too. Although I have centre seats, I've seats towards the front of the theatre. My attempts to check the seating arrangement on the Internet have come to nought because the horrible website refusese to cooperate. At least we have tickets, centre ones too :) Which means there will be no "ke-kenan lurus" or "ke-kiri lurus" for us. Lol.
College Day is this Saturday and I'm hoping to bring the camera out (yes, the one that sucks the life out of my batteries at an astonishing rate). I'm hoping the batteries will last one morning (Saturday) and one evening (Sunday at Charm's concert). But knowing the fuel-sucking camera that is really is, I doubt it. So I am going to have to charge all 8 spare batteries. All in the hope that they actually last (which means that if my mouse dies on me, good luck...).
To end things on an even brighter note, tomorrow's Friday!
After tomorrow, I have 30 more working days. For real. The last time I mis-counted
I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
