Yesterday, we...meekly knocked on the doors of EIGHT job agencies. Lol. EIGHT. But it seems that job agencies are running a roaring business right now. More students waiting for work than companies wanting to employ.
I turned down an interview at Eunos, some industrial building. After thinking about it and looking back, I don't even know why I rejected it anymore and I feel stupid for doing it. When the call came through, I had a feeling that I should probably play my cards for a little while longer and wait. Intuition, anyone? But my intuition hardly ever works I wonder if it's even a woman's intuition (supposedly reliable) at all. All I know was that the call woke me up at 9.30am, after I slept at 2.50am the same morning after finishing the Da Vinci Code (I officially read close to 1000 pages of words in little over5 days, of which 2 were rest days). Perhaps my mind wasn't thinking straight, I even rejected the notion of a follow up interview on another day. But really, no employer should be made to reschedule a 2nd interview day just because one potential applicant can't make it. I probably came across as a little picky to the caller. Which I probably am, haha, I want a job that pays and doesn't treat me like shit. Run now, I'm hoping that my mum's contacts will come through and tell me they know of openings somewhere.
I'm establishing the habit of reading into the wee hours of the morning. Finished Geisha at 2.30am and Da Vinci at 2.50am. Of course, I prefer Geisha over Da Vinci any day. Now that I'm bookless once again, I can go back to being bored. Lol. I haven't touched the SIMS 2 in days, close to a week I reckon. And I've been burping a lot these past few days. Lots of gas in me. Haha. Sorry that was uncalled for.
As you can see, I am very bored. My room is starting to sink into a 2nd mess which means I have clearing up to do. But I am bored! And lazy.
I find it strange that everyone I get a comment nowadays, it's always on the post on Nguyen. It seems that people who come across the blog seem to have this "Hero complex". This "I am so noble and Singapore killed an innocent man" complex. Of course to them, Singapore is just a "rouge Chinese port". Obviously these people are really ignorant. Firstly, the whole Chinese port thing. We are not a mini-China. Only 70+% of the people here are Chinese. Which means we have a sizeable portion of non-Chinese comprising of Malays, Indians, Eurasions, Arabs, Caucasions and what not. 2ndly, I find it weird that people would glorify a convicted trafficker. "Let the dead rest", someone told me that. EVen after I've allowed the dead to rest, people seem intent on digging his bones out. SO much for let the dead rest. Plus what people don't realise is that by excluding Singapore users, goods and services, everyone suffers. All part of economics. They probably think Singapore will lose the most. Bah, everyone loses. Not just the group that's been banned, the group doing the banning, but the group of people who don't really care too. But I guess the key issue is "Let the dead rest". Yes, sore people of the world who want to glorify criminals or shake your heads at capital punishment, let the dead rest. Because no matter how you lambast my blog, and any other blog supporting the Government's decision to hang, you won't bring the poor guy back to life, even if you argued till your face turned blue. And the message has been sent. Bring drugs into Singapore? If we catch you, it's over. Not even your government can do much about it. Did the Singapore government yield to the US govt? Nope, they caned Micheal Fay accordingly. So what makes you think she'll think twice when it comes to the Australian govt when she went against the govt of the only remaining superpower of the world? And I always thought the Singapore govt bootlicked the US govt. Heh. And another thing. I am not going to apologise for that post of mine because it reflects my take on the issue, which hasn't changed. You have your POV and I have mine. All I'm hoping now is that the Indonesian govt doesn't yield and punish the Bali Nine the way they deem fit, execution or not. But don't be surprised if they do, after all, capital punishment is still very much alive in Asia. And we are probably doing other countries a favour by keeping drugs out of their countries. And Asian countries then get the flak for it. Next time, maybe Asian countries shouldn't care, as long as the drugs don't enter their country. Who really cares if these drugs reach the hands of the citizens of other countries? *Note sarcasm*. Plus, you can never know the true extent of the problem until you are living in the proximity of giant drug producing regions like the Golden Triangle (I reckon at least one third of you just went "huh?" Lol). But for now, let the issue rest. A man has died and I don't think his family would appreciate it if we kept bringing him up to put a point across. I think they'd rather we leave them out of this and let them mourn in peace. So really, let the dead rest. (plus I am sick of having to keep reiterating what I say, which I stand by)
A hot new issue in the local blogosphere. Aerosel spray cans used at large scale parties island wide.
2 main arguments. One, aerosel sprays are environmentally unfriendly and should be banned to save the Earth (which I have NOTHING against if it's true. Never seen one of these cans 'cause I've never been to such a party, 'cause I can't stand crowds). Two, sprays being used a weapons to blind young women and some lustful men zoom in to molest the temporarily blinded girl.
When phrased in such a manner, I don't think it's seditious or racist. But when the most influential blogger in SIngapore (easily) zooms in on foreign workers after she posted her own experiences in being molested by men from Bangladesh, people tend to assume that foreign workers = Bangladeshis. And when she writes about foreign workers (FWs) using the spray cans as weapons of mass molestation (WMM anyone?), all the claws start coming out.
I don't have any doubts that women do get taken advantage of in such situations. Neither do I doubt that these perpetrators MAY be FWs. But I do think that some of them are locals. I learnt in secondary school that sweeping statements are dangerous. Unfortunately, people have regarded her post as one huge sweeping statement in itself. A post phrased in a fiery sense draws people looking for a fight. Now we have people exclaiming that we should ban FWs (huh?!?!?!), we should hit ever FW we see (!!!!!!! 0.O). The whole issue has exploded into something seditious and racist.
Now we get a 2nd popular blogger who wants to get her hands dirty by declaring war with blogger number 1.
The local blogosphere is such a strange place. First on disabled toilets, and now this?!?!
I think both women need to reexamine their writing styles because a lot of people read their writings, and they have a certain responsibility towards their readers. Unlike me who write for a minute number of readers who mostly know me personally, they have a lot more at stake.
With regards to this issue, I'm seriously baffled how the local authorities can allow this to happen. Segregating FWs isn't going to solve the problem(creates more social problems). Banning aerosel sprays solves it in the short run, but the problem may return in the long run. Banning such parties is RIDICULOUS. FOr now, the only solution would be for the women to avoid these places. More policemen? Only if they do something about it. From what I've heard, some of them don't really care, even after the victims approached them for help. No easy solution, that's for sure.
I think the issue is a valid one, but not neccesarily the proposed solution. That's left to people who've seen more than I have and have better solutions up their sleeves. I for one, am baffled.
I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
