It is a wonderful feeling being so close to the end of the academic year.
I won't go into the details 'cause I'm tired after finishing my formula sheet for my statistics exam the coming Thursday. That of course means that I have to start studying for it tomorrow, but it's a good thing to get the formula sheet out of the way.
So meanwhile, excuse me while I go brush my teeth and head to bed.
And the I-20 is FINALLY here. I need to start thinking about the visa.
The reason why I sound as if my exams just ended (when it hasn't) would be because I spent an unmotivated weekend trying to cramp Sociology (didn't work out too well) and that it's finally over.
I still have 3 papers though.
I couldn't finish the paper (but so did almost everyone else I spoke to lol, this is what you get when you tell us to write 3 sociology essays in 2 hours when I ended up writing an average of 4 pages per essay that I HAD time to think through). I ended up completing some 2.33 essays. Bleurgh.
I am so glad Sociology of Media did not come out because truth be told, the media lecture notes was a pile of sh*t. Hard to understand, the textbook worked so much better (but then again, studying the textbook was like reading a story book to me, NOT GOOD).
I'm hoping I did okay though, please let me get at least a B+?
It's raining cats and dogs, I have a stiff neck (baaaaaaad sleeping posture) and I don't feel like studying despite having another paper this coming Wednesday.
I can't wait for the normalcy of life to return, but that's still 10 days away.
And I still need my freaking I-20, some 2-3 weeks after I've applied for summer school! How am I supposed to get into the country w/o my visa?!?!?!
On top of that, I'm hungry.
It seems like I have a thousand and one complains (I have a lot of complains, but maybe not as numerous as 1001) but I'm a little hyper now.
Who wants to go out on Thursday night (next Thursday) to celebrate my newfound freedom? Dinner anyone?!?!?!
Now, time to take a shower and then TRY to get started on a little revision.
Me? 80% Nerd?!?! I was expecting probably 50% at best? Where did the other 30% come from?
The site said this:
Overall, you scored as follows:
19% scored higher (more nerdy),
1% scored the same, and
80% scored lower (less nerdy).
What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:
High-Level Nerd. You are definitely MIT material, apply now!!!.
I don't believe them, it's a hoax. Hahahaha...
And the economics paper today? It went okay I reckon, but it was a tricky one.... like all other economics paper (and the setter mis-set a question, gave us all a free mark because there was no answer to the question! Lol!)
Onward to Sociology (the one I'll most probably die for...)
I went to school early, thinking that I would get some studying done before the IRO meeting at 11am. Thinking that I would get some breakfast, eat it in the canteen before going into the library to study. I sat down at a table and starting eating my chicken pie and sipping my cup of Milo.
The next thing I heard was a loud "thunggg..." (the sound of something hitting metal, hard!).
And then this black feathering mass with some white streaks dropped from the ceiling and onto the ground, some 2-3m away from me.
Initially, I thought the bird was probably eating something, curiosity got the better of me and I poked my head out for a look.
So the bird wasn't trying to eat something, it was struggling on the ground, dying. 2-3m away from me.
I decided I wasn't going to stare at some poor bird that had decided to fly straight into one of the overhead metal beams, possibly cracking its skull and spine, and then struggle before dying. I looked away and then took a breath, gathered my belongings and left.
I wasn't so sure it was the right thing to do, but it was weird to have a dead bird in the middle of a canteen and I was well... disoriented. Strange. I've never seen anything that's a Deuterostome (Class Ave, Neognathae, now you know I've studied too hard) actually die in front of me.
It brings a new twist to being bird brained though. Why would you fly yourself straight into a metal beam? I can say I met a kamikaze bird today, though I have no idea what it was trying to take out; the canteen structure, that one metal beam or me... hmmm
a) Either my economics lecturers are Monetarists at heart
or
b) The author of the recommended economics textbook for the course I'm taking (which I am not using) is a Monetarist.
Well it could be both.
And the textbook I'm using? I think the guy's a Keynes supporter. Sheesh. At least Sloman writes in a more balanced sort of method. I mean the lecture notes are all about Classical economics, well mostly anyway. Bring back Keynesian economics!!!
You have always been on the move seeking affectionate, satisfying and harmonious relationships. Your ultimate goal has been the realisation of an intimate union in which there could be love, self-sacrifice and mutual trust. It has often been said that 'True love is just around the corner' and - if you haven't found it as yet - you possibly soon will.
In the past there have been - and maybe there still are - many things that you have had to do without. You have now decided to set your sights on a position or situation that could give you greater prestige and which will afford you considerable self esteem.
Being a very proud individual, you tend to hold yourself aloof pretending that you are stoical - indifferent to pain and pleasure. This is not so, for in truth you are an extremely emotional individual, one that may make a hasty decision and perhaps regret it at leisure. It is time now to break the bond of detachment and be the 'you' that you would like to be - give vent to your emotions and enjoy yourself.
It is said that we are all influenced by our environment and indeed you are no exception. It would seem at this time that even though you may be surrounded by people, you are experiencing an inner loneliness. Fortunately you are sufficiently strong minded to realise that life has a great deal to offer you and that you may miss your share of experiences if you fail to make the best use of every opportunity. You therefore pursue your objectives with a fierce intensity and are prepared to commit yourself deeply and readily. You believe that whatever you would like to do or think 'you can do' - you do! It is because of this attitude that you may be considered by others as arrogant and even conceited, but its fair to say that whatever it is that you really want out of life you will put your heart and soul into it and will not take 'NO' for an answer.
You have so many ideas that you would like to revitalise but you need to realise a stable and peaceful condition to do so. Once you can free yourself from all the aggravation and tension around you, you will make strides that may amaze you. You will not be prevented from achieving all the things you so desire.
I don't know if I ought to be proud of myself or what but I'm slightly ahead of schedule (my study schedule that is). However, in lieu of the fact that I planned everything such that I would get no breathing space, now I'm having some time to breathe, I know I shouldn't relax, not when there's so much to cover. I am almost done with my first round through biodiversity, on top of that, I've finished a philosophy practice exam paper which I hadn't planned to do not till tomorrow, and I've done half an economics paper. Which means I cleared my planned workload for tomorrow and will be moving forward Friday's schedule and hopefully, I can move into Sociology on Friday night or Saturday morning. And I spotted mistakes in the lecturer's economics notes; they really shouldn't do up lecture slides when they're in a rush, mistakes happen and then students learn all the wrong things. Thankfully, I have a good economics textbook to teach me otherwise. I really want to get a minor in economics settled but I realise I can't stand macroeconomics. =S I love microeconomics though, for it's so relevant in our insignificant everyday lives. At least my insignificant everyday life.
I found a job for the month after the exams till I leave for LA, so that means I'll have a little more cash to spend over there. I have started my countdown till the end of the exams. It's not all that far away now. My mum is really interested in going to the States for a holiday it seems.
First she was going on about how she may leave for LA with me, a week before my planned departure date so she could have a look around, and now she's going on and on about how she's thinking about taking 3 quarters of December off to tour a portion of the US. Shhh.. don't tell anyone though, I don't think the boss knows. I guess I wouldn't mind, unless LA gives me a really good reason to change my mind.
Seems that one of my closer friends from junior college is being sent to Stanford for a conference. Congrats! That girl is so lucky, first Harvard, now Stanford. She's going places, literally =D
I can't wait for the end of the semester, I know I'm not going to get the kind of grades I got last semester, for one, the sociology grades are hyper inflated. I got B+s for my mid term tests and term assignment whereas other people are getting As and A+s. Lowest I've seen is.. well B+, but I'm not the only B+ walking around. If I hit a B or B+ for my final grade, I guess I could count myself lucky. To compensate for that, I shall have to work harder on my remaining subjects.
I think I ate something wrong for dinner, I'm having a bad run of the stomach. It's hurting but I'm otherwise fine, it's just disrupting the studying I wanted to get done but I spent the last hour or so resting in bed so I'm a lot better now. At least the weather isn't cold, or else I'd be feeling a whole lot worse than I am now. I'm supposed to get a whole lot more done today so as of now, I'm still playing catch up to meet my planned output for the day.
I actually planned to do some studying today since I was free. Guess what?
I didn't
CRAP
I spent see.. erm 80% of the day either playing, surfing the net or sleeping. Spent the remainder of the time doing a statistics tutorial and reading the first 3 pages of my sociology textbook's chapter on religion (bah).
Ok, now I seriously need to get cracking.
Approximately 30 days to FREEDOM!!!!!
And I have a bumper load of NUS Science students on my flight into LA now. Out of a possible 41, there's well 17 on my flight? Hahahahaha! Can I say I was the catalyst since I was the first to get my ticket?
I'm annoyed. The CA didn't go as well as I wanted to and did you know I got allocated a seat with a broken table TWICE? I had to change seats twice and the lecturer didn't bother to wait for me to get to a proper seat before starting the test? In the end, I had less time than all the other students! Through no fault of mine!
Anyway, the test was sucky, I lost my mojo by the time all the seat shifting was done and I couldn't focus on the task on hand 'cause my mojo was gone! Never underestimate the power of mojo! I don't think I'll do particularly well but I'm hoping to get at least a B on this one. *Prays*
I got an extension for my philosophy paper because I realised I had to work out a few nitty gritty arguments in my essay after the tutorial discussion, at least the tutor was nice enough to allow me a 2 day extension. So now, I get to submit my paper on Thursday instead (since I have no lessons on Wednesday
I'm so sick of school right now. At least the break's a month away. I'm so sleepy but I decided I'm not sleeping till I've really sorted out the philosophy paper so I can focus on sociology tomorrow.
And before I forget, I changed my mobile! My number is unchanged, if you have it (I won't be posting it for obvious reasons!). My Motorola V975 was giving me problems by refusing to ring every now and then, plus since the contract was due, I decided to upgrade my phone and got a new Nokia E65, courtesy of my mother. I haven't exactly figured out all the aspects of the phone and I don't think I have the time for it right now. It'll come along naturally I guess. If only Motorola came up with a decent design, I might have stuck to Motorola instead of making the switch to Nokia.
Right, I'm done with philosophy! Note to self: DON'T take a philosophy module ever again.
I'm a 3rd year student in what is probably the largest autonomous university in Singapore majoring in a Science-related subject (well it sorta IS SCIENCE). I'm known to be introverted, sarcastic (at times), funny when I rant (which isn't a good thing lol) and somewhat of a loner. I miss LA and would move there in a heartbeat :(
